What is GAAS?

The GAAS is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to help in all round development of Gujarat’s Agriculture and welfare of farmers.

What does it do ?

1. To undertake, promote organize and co-ordinate research in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and allied sciences such as Forestry, Fisheries, Geo-hydrology, etc. with reference to Gujarat.
2. To disseminate the knowledge of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and allied sciences.
3. To provide financial assistance or to arrange for financial assistance to the members or others concerned with research/publication of papers/books etc. in consonance with (a) and (b) above.
4. To award/arrange for award of prizes to eligible persons to promote the objects laid down in (a) and (b) above.
5. To publish necessary literature/Magazines, etc. for the benefit of the farmers and to keep up the close co-ordination with Govt., Agricultural universities and such other allied institutions.
6. To conduct training or to arrange for conducting training to ameliorate dissemination of knowledge with an ultimate aim to benefit the farmers from research.

Genesis

Late Shri Shivbhai J. Patel gave an idea to have a professional organisation for the welfare of Gujarat Agriculture. The GAAS was then established in 1963 and registered under the Societies Act on 16th September, 1964 (Registration no. F-215). It has at present 3452 life; 1491 ordinary; 48 Institutional and 2 patron members envisaging scientists, extension workers, farmers and institutions, firms and bodies interested in serving Gujarat’s agriculture and allied fields through research, teaching, extension, farming, business and industry.
